A Drink of Water

“Everyone who drinks of this water will be thirsty again, 14 but those who drink of the water that I will give them will never be thirsty” John 4: 13-14

I can describe my longing as a thirst that needs to be quenched. The kind of thirst that holds me. I image lifting the glass and coolness overwhelming my mouth as the first taste of clear fresh ice water meets my lips. The water having had moments to absorb the ice is cold and I gulp knowing it might be best to slow down. The sensation of relief fills me. I want that drink of water.

I want to be quenched.

The good news there is water. Abundant water. I only have to remember to drink it. I can go a whole day and not drink. I go home with the same full bottle that I came to work with 9 hours earlier. My body saying, “maybe you should take a drink of water.” I respond, “I will” or “I’d rather have a diet pop.” Something sparkly.

I just need water. Clear cool water. Not cold but cool and easy to drink. Not so easy that I drink it too fast. Just cool enough to savor. Set down on the table in front of me and look forward to another swallow when I’m ready.

This was very beautiful. This message really touched me. All we need is water, not fancy water or other drinks. God provides us this gift of life and we don’t need to look else where. I needed to hear this particular message today as I angst what I am doing. God is there and I don’t need to search for him. Thank you. Your well written words made this message very alive.
